The African Judo Union (AJU) is founded in 1984, amongst the official national organizations of all African states. The Judo recognized by the AJU is the one created by Jigoro Kano, and which now exists as an Olympic sport. Judo is understood as a way of life to be reached through a training of the mind and the body. The judokas under the supervision of the AJU have an amateur statute in conformity with the charter of the International Olympic Committee(IOC)
